Undertale is ambitious and heartfelt, with one of the most beautiful soundtracks I’ve heard in an indie game; which is why it pains me to rate it a 6.
The core gameplay/combat just wasn’t very enjoyable to me (despite its cool symbolism), but rather, frequently irritating, and I didn’t really connect with any of the characters. The writing is often clever and often heartfelt when it focuses on the relationships between its characters, but I found a lot of it dull and otherwise uninteresting when it chooses to branch out.
Still, there’s a lot to love here. It’s continually creative in its execution, I liked a lot of the level progression, and I think the story will resonate with a lot of people; it just didn’t with me.
Is It Worth Playing ?
Yes, I’d say a good chunk of people would get a lot out of it.
