Fallout 3 was the first game I played that truly blew me away to a whole different degree with the quality of its world building, writing, environmental detail, and immersion.
The tone, atmosphere, and ambience are so uniquely cryptic, perfectly blending that 50’s aesthetic with post apocalyptic ruin. The quests are so incredibly creative, too, both in their concepts and in their execution; The day played tranquility lane is basically a core memory of mine, and the entire vault introduction and eventual escape blew me away. Everything from the vault boy pictures to the slow-mo action in VATS was amazing. Even the DLC is fantastic, delivering one uniquely gripping adventure after another.
Fallout 3 may have been overshadowed by Fallout New Vegas that came out a few years after it, but at the time of its release, I thought it was the best game ever made (with maybe the exception of Silent Hill 2), crafting a world like nothing I had ever experienced.
One of my all time favorites, and undoubtedly a masterpiece.
Is It Worth Playing ?
Without a doubt.
