Alan Wake 2 is a masterclass of ambiance and unconventional storytelling, melding its unique components together to create one of the most gorgeous worlds I’ve had the pleasure of exploring.
The carefully crafted atmosphere draws somber inspiration from the likes of Silent Hill and Twin Peaks, while still putting its own cryptic spin on it. I absolutely adored navigating my way through the foggy and scarcely populated north-western towns, and talking to the odd locals throughout. The graphics are some of the most gorgeous and polished I’ve ever come across, and the gameplay/combat itself is incredibly refined and satisfying. The story is a little convoluted at times, but still manages to tie everything together in satisfying, surprising, and original ways.
Truly a one of a kind experience that left me wishing there was more of this world to explore.
