By many accounts, this game should have a much lower rating. The acting and writing are both laughably bad, the gameplay is pretty janky, and a lot of the game’s elements are hilariously and randomly very punishing. Despite all of that, I had a great time playing. Working your way through the motel and discovering what each room has to offer is a ton of fun, as is solving the wacky puzzles and figuring out how to deal with the various enemies. The ambience is pretty well done, too, certainly bringing a certain charm to the confined experience.
It’s definitely one of those games where the finished product is far greater than the sum of its individual parts.
